Trade Skills Experience

The One-Day Trade Skills Experience is an exciting hands-on programme designed to introduce students to a range of practical construction and trade skills in a safe, engaging workshop environment. Throughout the day, students rotate through a series of trade stations including carpentry, measuring and marking out, power tools, tiling, plastering and drylining, gaining real experience using industry tools and techniques. The programme also explores career pathways, apprenticeships and opportunities within the construction sector, helping students discover their strengths while building confidence, teamwork and practical problem-solving skills. No previous experience is required – just a willingness to learn, create and get involved.

Carpentry and Measuring

Students will learn the importance of accurate measuring, marking out and material preparation, which form the foundation of all construction projects. Using tape measures, squares and hand tools, they will gain practical experience in measuring, cutting and assembling timber safely and accurately.

Power Tools

Students will receive practical training in the safe and correct use of cordless drills, impact drivers and other commonly used power tools. Through hands-on activities, they will develop confidence in drilling, fixing and assembling materials while learning essential workshop safety procedures.

Drylining and Plastering

Develop essential practical skills in modern drylining and partition wall construction. This hands-on module introduces participants to the tools, materials and techniques used to construct internal stud walls and install plasterboard safely and accurately.

Tiling

Gain practical, hands-on experience in the fundamentals of wall and floor tiling. Participants will learn how to prepare surfaces, plan tile layouts, accurately measure and cut tiles, apply adhesive, set tiles correctly, and finish joints with grout for a professional result.
