Carpentry & Woodworking

This hands-on carpentry and woodworking module introduces students to the core skills used in construction, joinery and furniture making. Students will learn how to safely measure, mark, cut and assemble timber using a range of hand and power tools in a practical workshop environment. Working individually and as part of a team, students will gain experience building timber frames, basic structures and woodworking projects while developing an understanding of accuracy, planning and safe workshop practices.

The programme covers tool identification, timber types, fixing methods, drilling, screwing, sawing and frame assembly techniques commonly used across the construction industry. Students will also learn the importance of teamwork, problem solving and practical thinking while gaining confidence using real workshop equipment. This module provides an excellent introduction to carpentry trades and modern woodworking skills while encouraging creativity, practical ability and hands-on learning.
